What you need

The game	A disc image (`.iso` or `.xiso`) of your own SSX Tricky Xbox disc, USA release. The PS2 and GameCube versions won't work, and neither will the PAL or Japanese Xbox releases.
PC	Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and a Direct3D 11 graphics card. Any recent PC plays at 60 FPS. For high frame rates at high resolutions, you need a gaming PC.
Controller	Optional. Xbox-style (XInput) controllers work, and so does the keyboard. Other controllers can go through Steam Input or DS4Windows.

Install and play

Download the latest release (a .zip file) from GitHub and extract it into a folder of its own.
Make a disc image of your SSX Tricky Xbox disc.
Start OpenTricky.exe, the launcher. The first time, choose your disc image: the launcher checks it and remembers it. PLAY stays greyed out until the image is the right one.
Open Settings to choose the resolution, the screen shape (Auto follows your screen), the controls and the extras, or pick a preset. Then press PLAY. The launcher hides while you play and comes back when the game closes.

Windows SmartScreen may warn you because the program isn't code-signed. If you trust the download, choose More info → Run anyway.

Updating

When a new version is out, the launcher says so and can install it for you: it downloads the new version, checks it against the release's SHA256SUMS.txt, and keeps the previous version: a failed update puts everything back, and Settings → Advanced → Restore brings the previous version back if you prefer it. If the download can't be checked, nothing is changed. Your saves and settings are not touched.

You choose in Settings → Advanced: Check for updates (Ask before installing, or Never: no request at all) and Update channel. You can also update by hand: download the new zip from GitHub and extract it over your OpenTricky folder.

Coming from 0.1.0? Settings now live in settings.ini; the old SSX Tricky.ini isn't read, so choose your disc image and settings again. Your saves are not touched.

Good to know

SSX Tricky.exe starts the game straight away with your settings. Skip launcher next time (Settings → Advanced) does the same from the launcher: hold Shift, or Select on a controller, while it starts to see it again.
Your settings are kept in settings.ini, next to OpenTricky.exe (or in Documents\My Games\SSX Tricky\ if that folder can't be written).
Screenshots (F12) go to a Screenshots folder next to the game.
For a portable copy that keeps its saves next to the game, create an empty file named portable.txt in the game's folder.
